We are…
trying to savor all the joyous moments, big and small, that happen each day…
bringing more mindfulness and gratitude into our daily lives…
learning to prepare a range of healthy and hearty, mostly plant-based, whole foods to nourish our family…
incorporating science and evidence-based recommendations into our lifestyle choices and changes…
In short, trying to lead the best life we can, filling our days with simple pleasures and home-cooked food.
With all the demands life throws at us it can be hard to maintain the sense of wonder at life, hard to remember to see the beauty all around us, and easy to get bogged down by frustrations and hassles. We have so much to be thankful for—we want to recognize and appreciate it today. We want to smile more and show our children how to lead happy, fulfilling lives.
Food is one of life’s great pleasures. We didn’t start out being very comfortable and confident in the kitchen, but through sheer necessity have grown to enjoy cooking and learning about food. In recent years, one of us has shifted her diet into the plant-based world by adding more vegetarian and vegan recipes to my repertoire. While we generally follow a “mainly vegan” approach, where plant-based foods are the main attractions in most of my meals—and animal products, when present, take on a supporting or side role—we steer clear of being restrictive with our diet. It is entirely appropriate, and a great deal more fulfilling and feasible, to allow for balance in the way we eat. So we do not follow any food-restrictive diets that require the strict exclusion of any foods, other than the few food allergies we have in our family. We like food. Good food. The recipes included here will cover a little bit of everything.
Research. Research isn’t as alluring as food, but it is something else we enjoy. And it can be a useful anchor when we get swept away by all sorts of appealing and distracting fads. We want to use this space to ground our thinking about food, and other aspects of life, with research and scientific inquiry. Data and research can sometimes be overwhelming, but it can also help us feel more confident about our food and health choices. Hopefully that confidence can lead to clearer minds, reduced of the worry about whether we are eating or doing the right things.
Ultimately this space is to document and share with family, friends, and anyone else who might like to follow along, the recipes, studies, and meditations on life that are helping to make life better. We want to Live Great Days.
